Hooray for Sundee!!!

This post is to celebrate the October 9th publishing of my dear friend Sundee Frazier's book, Brendan Buckley's Universe and Everything in It!! Partly why I am so excited about her book being published is that Sundee has influenced my life so much for the better, and I am eager for her sphere of influence to widen to others. I will rush to the bookstore to buy this faster than you can say "Harry Potter!" and will officially be throwing my own Brendan Buckley party on October 9th! I'm off to call my local bookstore to make sure they'll have it in stock.....

You can go to Sundee's website at http://sundeefrazier.com/bb.php for more information, and here is a bit to whet your appetite:

My novel, Brendan Buckley's Universe and Everything in It, is the story of 10-year-old biracial Brendan Buckley -- a scientist, budding rock hound, and Tae Kwon Do blue belt who keeps a notebook to record all of his big questions about "life, the universe, and everything in it." For Brendan, no question is unimportant and nothing is too small to ask about. The one thing he knows NOT to ask about is the white grandfather he's never met and doesn't know why. Then Brendan makes a shocking discovery and all his summer plans take a back seat to one, singular mission: to find out where Grandpa DeBose has been -- without letting his parents know what he's up to.

Kirkus Reviews called Brendan "an appealing character with a sense of honor," and the book, "a good, accessible selection for inspiring discussion of racism and prejudice."

If Brendan's story can do that for kids, I will be very pleased.

School Library Journal has said it is "an absorbing look at a 10-year-old boy who . . . collides into years of anger and hurt in his family and must create a new identity for himself. . . . Frazier writes affectingly about what being biracial means in 21st-century
America."
